The Sydney Centre for Reproductive Health Research

Research Division of Family Planning NSW

The Sydney Centre for Reproductive Health Research, the Research Division of Family Planning NSW, was established to ensure that information and clinical services provided by Family Planning NSW are based upon proven facts established through carefully developed research studies.

The Research Centre commenced its first project in May 1990. Since then it has participated in many research studies including the development of new contraceptive methods such as patches, implants and vaginal rings as well as new pill formulations. The Centre has also contributed to the management of female sexual disorders during the menopause and gynaecological problems such as excessive menstrual bleeding.

The Centre has an international reputation for our commitment to a high standard of research into reproductive and sexual health. It has collaborated on many international multi-centre studies with reputable non profit organisations such as The World Health Organisation and The Population Council in New York. The Centre conducts clinical studies sponsored by pharmaceutical companies as well as collaborating on research projects with other universities and scientific institutions. It has been a participating organisation in studies which have attracted a number of international and Australian research grants.

In order to complete these important studies the centre is dependent upon volunteers. Volunteers are fundamental to our work and can expect to receive expert medical care whilst participating in our studies.
