This year's Sexual Health Week has partnered up with NSW Health to engage young people to educate and raise awareness about the:
This year's campaign also focuses on encouraging young people to get a sexual health check at a local doctor or youth health service, check websites and infolines for information and keep each other safe by using condoms and lubricant.
Sexual Week Health resources are also available starting today and include safe-sex packs (condom and lube). Also information for young people about getting tested and accessing GPs will be widely distributed.
To help promote the campaign in local areas, 38 community grant winners were selected out of 57 to spend up to $1,000 to develop a sexual health activity at a local youth service. Some of the winning ideas include inventing a sexual health board game in Parramatta, competing in the Safe Sex Olympics in Hornsby and showcasing a sexual health screening and workshop for young Aboriginal men in Nowra.
Family Planning NSW is proud to play an active role in promoting Sexual Health Week 2009, and will be disseminating campaign resources in FPNSW clinics in Ashfield, Newcastle, Fairfield, Penrith, Dubbo and surrounding areas.
"Sexual health is not just about being free from diseases or other unwanted consequences of sexual behaviour," said Sexual Health Week spokesperson and Dolly Doctor, Dr Melissa Kang said. "It's about feeling healthy and happy about one's sexuality, intimate relationships and being in control of what you do and don't do."
Sexual Health Week 2009 is a partnership among four area health services (Northern Sydney Central Coast, Sydney South West, South Eastern Sydney Illawarra, Sydney West) and Family Planning NSW, together with YAA (Health Outreach Team NSW).
