More than a decade after their first appearance, the popular Women & HIV Factsheets will be re-launched with a brand new design and updated information for women who are living with HIV and those considering an HIV test.
The six revised factsheets to be launched are:
• Testing for HIV
• Recently Diagnosed
• Looking After Yourself
• Treatments
• Pregnancy
• NSW Services and Websites
Originally developed in 1997 by Family Planning NSW and ACON, the factsheets were updated in 2001 and translated into seven community languages.
In 2008 Family Planning NSW and ACON joined with the Heterosexual HIV/AIDS Service (Pozhet), and the Multicultural HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C Service (MHAHS) to start the 18 month-revision process.
Designed to be a first point of important information, these unique factsheets are tailored specifically to women who have been recently diagnosed with HIV, as well as newly-arrived migrant women.
The new factsheets are written in Plain English and feature inclusive images and a current list of services in NSW. Translations of the factsheets are in progress and will be written in Thai, Vietnamese, Khmer and Swahili.
Virginia Furner, senior HIV consultant with the Albion Street Clinic, launched the factsheets on Wednesday, March 10th at the Redfern Town Hall.
The factsheets have been produced in a PDF format for ease of access and can be downloaded from Family Planning NSW here or from; www.acon.org.au or www.acon.org.au.
