Question

How do I do a check of my testicles (balls)?

Answer

To do this, hold your scrotum (the sack of skin that holds your balls) with the fingers of both hands so that you can feel the shape of the testes inside. There are two of them and they should feel smooth and slide easily between your fingers. The testicles are smooth oval organs, about four cm long and two cm round. (About the size of a large almond or walnut in the shell.) They are usually about the same size but it is quite normal for one to be slightly larger than the other. It is also normal for one testicle to hang lower than the other in the scrotum. Note that it is normal to feel a lumpy area behind and at the top of each testicle, this is the epididymis, a long coiled tube that collects and stores sperm.

If you notice any sore areas, unusual lumps or hardness, changes in shape or size of the testicles, head for your doctor. It most probably not cancer, but in the few cases that are, this is curable if treated early.
