External Courses

Family Planning NSW is the state's leading provider of reproductive and sexual health training for doctors, nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, teachers, disability services and community groups working in the area of reproductive and sexual health.

In addition to the Family Planning NSW ongoing suite of accredited training courses, our expert presenters, led by Medical Director, Clinical Associate Professor Deborah Bateson, are available to provide external training on-demand to meet the needs of your organisation.

If you'd like to request a quote for external training, please complete a request form below and one of our Education coordinators will respond within 7 days to discuss your training needs.

The topics available include (but are not limited to) the following:

Clinical Training

  • Contraception
  • Sexually transmissible infections
  • Menopause
  • Unintended pregnancy options
  • Adolescent health
  • Health and the Law
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Cervical cancer screening workshop with hands-on practice on pelvic models
  • Common gynaecology presentations in general practice
  • Hands-on training in the insertion of Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive methods (LARC)

Disability Training

  • Introduction to Sexuality and disability (1 day)
  • Sexuality Matters! Part A - Providing rights based sexuality support and information to people with disability (2 day)
  • Sexuality Matters! Part B - Designing and delivering sexuality education programs (1 day)
  • Sexual Health Education for Life: the PDHPE Curriculum for students with disability (1 day)
  • Sexuality & Disability: workplace policy made easy

Community Services Training

  • Sexuality & Health Essentials (for youth and community workers)

Teacher Training

  • Beyond the Birds & Bees  - for teachers of primary school students
  • Sexual Health Education: Working It Out - for teachers of students in Years 5-8
  • Beyond the Nuts & Bolts - for teachers of secondary school students
  • Sexual Health Education for Life: the PDHPE Curriculum for students with disability

All relevant resources for each session can be provided to the participants, by request.

The training sessions for Doctors have RACGP and ACRRM accreditation and attract QI&CPD points.

Training sessions for teachers may contribute to NESA approved QTC Registered PD hours.

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Family Planning NSW is also able to deliver Nationally Recognised Training on request. Participants who successfully complete all assessment components in these courses will be awarded a Statement of Attainment or Qualification, depending on the course.
