Research and Publication Officer

Part Time 24 Hours per week

Position summary

The Research and Publication Officer will manage FPNSW Research Centre publications including the development project plan, liaising with internal and external writers, performing a variety of writing and editorial duties.  This position will also be responsible in managing research intake and coordinate relevant FPNSW research studies. 


Key Responsibilities

Project manage the Research Centre publication projects including:

  • development of project plan, scheduling and distributing work, recording progress, troubleshooting and resolving related publication issues
  • serve as liaison to contributors/authors/reviewers and others directly involved in the published work
  • ensure permissions standards for content and image are consistent and documented  including copyright registration and permission
  • development of recruitment strategies to promote Research Centre publications in consultation with the Marketing Manager
  • manage the ongoing update of online FPNSW Clinical Handbooks/Guidelines including annual subscription and providing high level support to external users

In consultation with the Director Research Centre manage Family Planning NSW Research Centre website pages including:

  • Manage the research volunteer database including the regular extraction and deletion of online data
  • Manage the research projects, and publication website pages

In consultation with Chief Investigators and relevant FPNSW unit, coordinate clinical research studies and other studies including:

  • prepare and finalise research study submissions, memorandum of agreement and budget
  • manage submissions to the Ethics Committee in accordance with the NHMRC National Statement Guidelines and liaison with external bodies to ensure deadlines are met
  • coordinate recruitment strategies and follow up of study participants
  • manage study databases including the provision of database application help desk support to relevant research staff
  • monitor status  of research projects including the provision of monthly status report
  • ensure confidentiality of research data is in accordance with relevant Privacy Laws and NSW Ministry of Health Privacy Manual 

Coordinate project meetings with and research collaboration request from external organisations 

Maintain an efficient filing system to ensure immediate availability of relevant files and support documents 

Perform other duties as required by Director Research Centre to ensure the efficient functioning of the Centre.


Essential criteria

  • Graduate qualification in field of public health, research or equivalent
  • Proven experience in writing of literature reviews, research proposals and ethics applications
  • Proven experience in coordinating clinical research studies and other studies including preparation of budget, recruitment and follow up
  • Proven experience in writing, proof-reading and editing reports and other publications
  • Knowledge in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and the use of standard statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, STATA, NVIVO or similar
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High level computer literacy particularly Microsoft Office package and ADOBE
  • Proven experience in the use reference management systems including EndNote and Mendelay
  • Ability to work independently as well as across teams and with a variety of projects and stakeholders
  • Highly organised, efficient and reliable; proven ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external customers at a professional level
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable criteria

  • Expe​​​​​​​rience on the maintenance of website or other online platforms
  • Experience on the development of online data collection such as Survey Monkey, Redcap, etc
  • Knowledge of copyright requirements
