Refresher Day for Doctors

Who would benefit from this course

A course for busy GPs who have completed either the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors course, the Doctors Short Course in Reproductive and Sexual Health, or who wish to update knowledge and experience of reproductive and sexual health.

Course description

This one day course comprises lectures and small group work.  Participants will be requested to offer deidentified case studies from their own practice. Brief pre-course and post-course activities

Topics include:

  • Contraceptive update from the new handbook Contraception: an Australian Clinical Practice Handbook 4th Edition
  • Menopause update and case studies
  • The New National Cervical Screening Program in practice
  • STIs - whats new?
  • Case studies in reproduction and sexual health 


Basic knowledge and experience in reproductive and sexual health.

Entry requirements / eligibility

General Practitioners with full general medical registration who have been practising for some time, or who previously have completed the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors course or the Doctors Short Course in Reproductive and Sexual Health.

Learning outcomes

Course Objectives

Implement up-to-date guidelines around STIs, including testing procedures, diagnosis and treatment

Gain competence in the use of the options available for menopause management

Gain working knowledge of the new developments in cervical screening, and resulting changes to clinical practice

Achieve competence in tailoring contraception in General Practice

Identify and improve on own practice limitations and of the range of referral options available in reproductive and sexual health (Safety)

Course structure

Pre-course activities

Pre-reading and related activities must be completed before attendance at the face-to face-workshop.
Distributed to participants prior to attendance

Face to face workshop

Attendance at a one day face-to-face workshop

Post-course activities

Some online post-course activities and online evaluation to be completed
