Course description

This course is designed for overseas trained doctors with limited experience in reproductive and sexual health in the Australian setting.  Developed in partnership with the NSW STI Program Unit (STIPU), the course provides you with up to date information on reproductive and sexual health in Australia to improve your knowledge and confidence in this topic area.

Content includes: 

  • Communication in primary health care 
  • Sexual history taking 
  • Contraception 
  • Sexually transmissible infections (STIs) 
  • Menopause  
  • Unintended pregnancy options
  • Case discussions 

Eligible participants can also attend the following optional training attached to the course:

  • Cervical screening upskilling (free of charge)

Who should attend?

Doctors who are International Medical Graduates (IMG) with limited experience of reproductive and sexual health in Australia.

Course structure

It is essential participants complete the required activities before attending the workshop to gain critical knowledge and ensure full participation during the course.

Participants have access to the online learning 2 weeks before the workshop.

Pre-workshop activities

Completion of online learning about cervical screening which includes: pre-reading, activities, case studies and videos. This learning will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

Completion of a predisposing activity (RACGP Category 1 requirement) prior to attendance.

Face-to-Face Workshop

2 days plus additional sessions if completing cervical screening upskilling and insertion and removal of the contraceptive implant (Implanon NXT).

Completion of a reinforcing activity (RACGP Category 1 requirement).

Eligibility / Prerequisite

Current general, provisional or limited registration or application for registration with Medical Board of Australia.

Adequate professional indemnity insurance is required and is the sole responsibility of the participant

Recognition / Accreditation

Participants who attend the whole course will receive a Statement of Attendance.

RACGP Activity Number 85548, this activity is accredited for 40 Category 1 points, as part of the RACGP Quality Improvement & Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program in the 2017-2019 Triennium.

ACRRM Activity number 8110, this activity is accredited for 30 PDP Core points and 30 O&G MOPS points.
