Research Officer

Part Time (32 hours/per week) Fixed Term: 1/06/2021 - 30/06/2022

Location: 328-336 Liverpool Rd, Ashfield NSW 2131

Base Salary: $87,488.18 (Pro rata for Part Time)

Gross Salary Package (Base Salary + Superannuation + Leave Loading): $105,868 (Pro rata for Part Time)

Position summary

The Research Officer will be actively involved in the coordination of Family Planning NSW research and evaluation activities and projects.


  • Contribute to the planning, design implementation of relevant projects including
    • preparing and finalising research study submissions/amendments, and memorandum of agreement
    • finalising survey instruments
    • coordinating research participants and file reviews
    • carrying out data management responsibilities including data collection, analysis and reporting
  • Develop ethics applications, including Human Research Ethics applications and associated documentation (e.g. participant information sheet) and coordinate research governance processes to ensure high quality ethics submissions and appropriate risk assessment and review of contracts
  • Liaise with clinical services, health promotion, education services,  international development and marketing teams to support research and evaluation activities
  • Pursue and develop relevant research and evaluation grants or other external funding for Family Planning NSW as required
  • Coordinate relevant FPNSW research projects and prepare research articles for peer reviewed journals and government reports
  • Assist staff in the development or review of papers to be presented at national and international conferences
  • Maintain an efficient filing system to ensure immediate availability of relevant files and support documents
  • Perform other duties as required by Director Research Centre to ensure the efficient functioning of the Centre.
Financial and resource management / administration
  •  Maintain appropriate resource allocation, and effective management and administrative practices, in accordance with organisational policies, processes and delegations of FPNSW.


Essential criteria

  • Graduate qualification in field of public health, research or equivalent (e.g. public health)
  • Experience in health-related research and evaluation
  • Proven experience in writing of literature reviews, research proposals and ethics applications 
  • Demonstrated ability to collate data/information from disparate published and unpublished sources and the ability to effectively track and manage data, versions and updates, and data sources
  • Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis and the use of standard statistical packages such as SPSS, STATA, NVIVO or similar
  • Proven experience in the use reference management systems including EndNote and Mendeley
  • Demonstrate effective project management Skills
