Are you responsible for delivering sexual health education?

This one day course will enable teachers of year 5-8 students (Stages 3-4) to build on existing knowledge of sexuality and sexual health education and increase confidence in preparing programs and having conversations about puberty, relationships and sexual health using a holistic approach. Sessions feature hands-on activities, current resources and use evidence-based strategies for effective learning with a focus on creating supportive and inclusive learning environments.
Topics include:
- Best practice approaches to sexual health education
- Exploring values and attitudes
- Puberty
- Respectful relationships
- Good sexual health, including STIs
- Sexual and gender diversity
- Putting it all into practice and answering challenging questions
- Recommended resources for teachers and students
Activities are aligned with the NSW PDHPE syllabus.
This course may also be presented as a series of one or more shorter sessions to meet the needs of schools or regional groups when delivered as an external request.
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for teachers, pre-service teachers, professional development coordinators, casual teachers and others who work with year 5-8 (stages 3-4) students, particularly those delivering sexual health education or in a wellbeing role.

Eligibility / Prerequisite
Training and experience working with students in years 5-8 or currently working towards a qualification to do so.
Assessment
Participants who attend the whole day will receive a Statement of Attendance.
The content of this course aligns with standard descriptors 1.2.2, 2.1.2, 3.3.2, 3.4.2, 3.5.2 and 4.1.2 from the Australian Professional standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
