Course description

Supported decision making is a model for supporting people with intellectual disability to make their own decisions with support from others. However, in the area of sexuality and relationships, many people with intellectual disability are still denied the ability to make their own decisions. They are often over-protected and not allowed to have life experiences that include taking risks, which are part of human development.

Let’s Talk: Consent and Healthy Relationships

Course description

This course aims to build the capacity of educators of year 7-12 students to support young people to learn about consent and healthy relationships. The session enables educators to develop their knowledge of the guiding principles of consent, both within intimate relationships and more generally, as well as looking at ways to communicate about consent. The course also examines the hallmarks of healthy relationships and ways to support the development of healthy relationships.

Let’s Talk: Positive Puberty

Course description

This course builds the capacity of Stage 2, 3 and 4 teachers to provide engaging, evidence-based education about puberty.  The course takes a positive, strength-based approach to talking about the changes that occur during puberty and advocates for a holistic and whole-of-school approach to puberty education.

This course builds the capacity of Aboriginal Health Workers to provide reproductive and sexual health information to clients and community members.  Topics covered include values and attitudes, reproductive and sexual health rights, men’s and women’s business, contraception, STIs and strategies for working with the community. It comprises a 2 day workshop and participants may also undertake a workplace based assessment to complete a nationally recognised unit of competency.
