The SEARCH Project

The SEARCH project is a new health service model from Family Planning Australia that aims to improve access to essential reproductive and sexual health services for women in NSW, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and those in regional and rural communities. This service model aims to build the capacity of local service providers and remove barriers to vital healthcare for all women in NSW.

The project will support local clinicians, including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and Aboriginal health workers, to provide reproductive and sexual health services that are both high-quality and financially sustainable.

Our aim

We believe all people should have access to evidence-based and client-centered reproductive and sexual health services, including highly effective contraception, accurate information about pregnancy options and abortion.

The SEARCH project aims to:

  • remove barriers to access for long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) services
  • enhance the provision of and access to abortion services
  • enhance the quality of care for women receiving these services
  • address the problem of staff turnover by expanding the network of trained and accredited health professionals who can deliver these services

What do we provide?

The SEARCH project provides customised education and training to healthcare providers, and evaluation and support regarding governance, risk management and communications and marketing. We also provide some clinical support while partners are being upskilled in reproductive and sexual health service provision.

Each partner who joins the project will be supported through a three phase program to develop, implement and sustain the local delivery of abortion and LARC services.

We will provide:

  • free training programs on contraception, pregnancy options and abortion
  • service planning and implementation
  • fly-in fly-out clinical support based on need
  • best practice policy and procedure development
  • financial modelling
  • clinical resources
  • marketing and communications resources

Family Planning Australia will work with each partner to develop a flexible model adapted to the needs of local consumers, communities and providers.
