Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA) National Certificate for Doctors - Theory Face to Face
Course description
If you are a doctor (including GPs and GP registrars) who wishes to upskill in reproductive and sexual health using the latest clinical research and an interactive learning method, this course is for you. Formally known as the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors, this intensive blended learning course comprises pre-workshop online learning, a practical and interactive two-day face-to-face workshop and online assessment.
This nationally recognised course provides current, evidence-based research and practice guidelines to enhance your knowledge, skills and confidence in reproductive and sexual health.
Content includes:
- Contraceptive options
- Current guidelines for STI screening including diagnosis and management
- Unintended pregnancy options
- Working with diverse groups including adolescents and people living with disability
- Updates on the National Cervical Screening Program
- Menopause
- Men's health
- Other topics in the area of reproductive and sexual health
Upon completion you will be eligible to enrol in the clinical attachment course - Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia (SRHA) National Certificate for Doctors - Supervised Clinical Attachment. This includes structured, supervised placement at Family Planning Australia clinics.
Course facilitators

Dr Anna Bui
Anna is a GP working at Family Planning Australia as a Medical Officer and Medical Educator. She also works as a GP in the Illawarra. She has a keen interest in contraceptive care and improving patient access through education and upskilling of more clinicians.

Dr Libby Ashton-Jones
Libby is a GP working at Family Planning Australia as a Medical Officer and Medical Educator. She also works in Western Sydney as a GP and has a special interest in women's and children's health in the perinatal period. She is passionate about providing accessible reproductive and sexual healthcare for all.

Dr Sarah Callister
Sarah is a GP working at Family Planning Australia as a Senior Medical Officer and Lead Medical Educator. She has also worked as a GP in the Inner West for 15 years, and is passionate about raising the profile of reproductive and sexual health, and providing education that makes primary care consultations in this field easier.

Dr Lucy Cho
Lucy is a Medical Education officer at FPA and the Medical Lead for the SEARCH Project, a NSW Ministry of Health funded pilot improving access to pregnancy choices in rural and regional NSW. She has spent the last 10 years providing sexual and reproductive health care to marginalised populations and set up the first public nurse-led medical abortion service in Sydney at the Kirketon Road Centre. As an educator and doctor she enjoys sharing sexual and reproductive health skills and knowledge to diverse groups of clinicians and consumers. She is passionate about breaking down barriers to health care and reproductive autonomy. Lucy is currently finishing off a Fellowship in Public Health with a focus on reproductive health care and equitable access. Her other interests include medical anthropology and use of digital applications in healthcare.

Dr Elina Safro
Elina is a GP at Family Planning Australia across the full clinical and procedural scope in this area of medicine. She practises at RPA Hospital as VMO Forensic Medical Examiner and has held a VMO position at the RHW Menopause Hub. She also serves as Chair, Education Subcommittee of the Board of Australasian Menopause Society and is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the HER Centre, Monash University, and an OSCE examiner for AMC.
Who should attend?
Doctors (including GPs and GP registrars) who wish to expand their knowledge and clinical skills in a range of topics on reproductive and sexual health.
Course structure
The course is offered over a three-month period. It comprises pre-workshop online learning, a practical and interactive two-day face-to-face workshop and online assessment.
Pre-workshop activities
Completion of relevant online learning about which includes pre-reading and viewing of lectures online. This learning will take approximately 16 hours to complete.
Face-to-face workshop
Interactive learning and discussion as well as practical skill session focusing on key skills in history taking, cervical screening, common andrology and contraceptives across two days.
Post workshop activities
Completion of online learning (approximately 16 hours) and completion of an online exam and online role play assessment.

Eligibility / Prerequisite
Doctors will need to:
- Hold current unconditional registration with AHPRA
- Have 12 months post-registration experience
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, participants are expected to participate in all activities, including:
- Completion of a predisposing activity and a reinforcing activity (RACGP requirement)
- Attend the two-day face-to-face workshop
- Completion of the online course work before being eligible to undertake the written exam and role play assessment
- Completion of a written exam and role play assessment

Royal Australian College of General Practitioner Accreditation for 2023-2025 triennium
Participants who successfully complete all course and assessment requirements will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
