Booking a sexual health check!
This video tells a client’s story about visiting Family Planning NSW for sexually transmissible infection (STI) testing and treatment.
Should you have a Sexual Health Check?
A sexually transmissible infection is also called an STI. STIs are infections which can be passed from one person to another during sexual activity. This includes sexual activity when:
- the genitals touch and rub together
- body fluids swap from one person to another
STIs often have no symptoms. This means you may not know if you or a partner has an STI. The only way of finding out if you have an STI is by having a sexual health check-up. If an STI is left untreated, it can cause damage to the body and lead to health problems.
1 in 5 people will have an STI at some point in their life. Anyone can have one.
It is a good idea to have regular sexual health check-ups if:
- you have ever had sex
- you are starting a new sexual relationship
- you have ever had unprotected sex
- your partner has an STI
- the condom breaks or comes off during sexual activity
- if you have any symptoms.
Symptoms can include pain when peeing, pain during sex, itching in the genital area or unusual bleeding from the vagina. You can book an appointment with us to have a sexual health check. You can also visit our doctors and nurses to discuss any other reproductive and sexual health concerns or questions you may have.
