Starting the Conversation
Course description
Conversations about reproductive and sexual health can sometimes be difficult. This one day face-to-face course enables community workers to increase their knowledge and confidence to talk to people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities about reproductive and sexual health. The course features hands-on activities and introduces participants to current resources and activities to engage people from CALD communities and provide education about reproductive and sexual health.
Topics may include any or all of the following topics:

Sexuality in context

Values and culture
-
Trauma informed care
-
Broaching the topic- practical strategies and activities

Talking about issues of reproductive and sexual health with people from CALD communities
Participants are provided with a workbook, which includes a list of references and resources for workers and their clients.
Who should attend?
This course is for people working in the community sector in a role contributing to the health, wellbeing, support or settlement of culturally and linguistically diverse people.

Face-to-face workshop
One day course
The course can be customised on request to meet the needs of specific groups of learners, in which case delivery time may be shorter if one or more of the topics from the full course are not required.
Eligibility / Prerequisite
Participants should have experience working in the community sector with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
Course cost
There is no fee for the Starting the Conversation course as it is funded by South Western Sydney Local Health District.
Courses delivered for groups on request are priced on a cost recovery basis - please contact us for a quote.
Recognition / Accreditation
Participants who attend the whole course will receive a Statement of Attendance.
