World Vasectomy Day brings bulk-billed vasectomy service to Dubbo

Family Planning NSW is working in partnership with Clinic 66 to bring a bulk-billed vasectomy service to Dubbo on 19 and 20 November 2020, to celebrate World Vasectomy Day. The procedure typically costs between $300 and $700 in private clinics.

Vasectomy is a permanent method of contraception, which has very high success rates at avoiding unintended pregnancies. Approximately 1 in 4 Australian men over the age of 40 have had a vasectomy.

About the procedure

The clinic will use the no-scalpel technique and a local anaesthetic, providing access to a safe and effective method of permanent contraception. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

The appointment involves 2 parts.

  • Part 1 - Assessment: the vasectomy procedure is explained, including risks and benefits and a clinical examination is performed to ensure that the client is able to have the procedure safely performed under local anaesthetic.
  • Part 2 - Procedure: informed consent is obtained and the consent form signed. Then the vasectomy procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and follow-up instructions are given for semen analysis in 12 weeks.
