2 - FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health - Supervised Clinical Attachment (NSW)

Course description

Family Planning Australia provides clinical skills workshop and supervised clinical placements for the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health.

The clinical placement requires participants to attend a clinical skills workshop day to demonstrate their understanding of essential practical skills prior to their placement.

Participants will then have an opportunity to meet core competencies across a 32-hour placement in Family Planning Australia clinics. Together with our experienced clinical instructors in Newington, Penrith, Newcastle, and Fairfield, course participants will gain hands-on experience with the appropriate range of reproductive and sexual health issues required to complete their clinical placements. This may include history taking, contraception, cervical screening, STI/BBV, pregnancy options, and common andrology.

This placement is only available to participants who have completed the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors Theory Only (NSW) course within the last 12 months. Participants are required to hold a theory and practical Implanon certificate to register.

Who should attend?

Doctors who have completed the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors (Theory Only) within the last 12 months. Participants are required to hold a theory and practical Implanon certificate to register.

Course structure

Registration

Participants who have recently completed the theory component will be offered a clinical placement booking composed of 32 hours of face-to-face clinical supervision and competency sign-off.

Clinical Skills Workshop

Before commencing their clinical placement, participants must attend a Clinical Skills Workshop Day. This workshop focusses on key skills in history taking, cervical screening, common andrology and understanding of contraceptives. Clnicians must book in their own clinical placement days before attending the workshop, where they must accumulate a total of 32 hours.

Clinical Placement

Participants must complete the clinical placement within 3 months of attending the workshop. During this placement, participants must demonstrate competency in core skills. Alternate arrangements will be made with the Clinical Education Team if participants are unable to demonstrate competency.

Eligibility / Prerequisite

Doctors will need to:

  • Hold current unconditional registration with AHPRA
  • Have 12 months post-registration experience
  • Have completed the theoretical component within the last 12 months

Assessment

To successfully complete the course, participants are expected to participate in all activities, including:

  • Attend a clinical skills workshop day
  • Attend a clinical placement that is at least 32 hours in duration
  • Demonstrate core competency using the competency record book

Course cost

$1,150.00

Recognition / Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete all course and assessment requirements will be issued with a FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors.
