Well Women's Screening Course

Who would benefit from this course

Registered nurses, midwives and enrolled nurses.

Course description

This unique foundational course has been designed to provide registered nurses, midwives and enrolled nurses with the skills and knowledge needed to perform an holistic women’s health screening consultation.

Participants will be exposed to topics including: Reproductive and Sexual Health history taking, chlamydia and cervical cancer screening, vulvovaginal assessment, pelvic floor, breast awareness and domestic and family violence screening.

Please note that the workshop will also include a short session aimed at addressing questions participants may have around the course’s supervised clinical training component.

Entry requirements / eligibility

All nurses and midwives must hold current registration with AHPRA.

Learning outcomes

  • Develop foundational skills in holistic well women’s history taking
  • Identify opportunities for asymptomatic chlamydia screening and treatment
  • Achieve competency in cervical cancer screening and vulvovaginal assessment
  • Integrate current industry standards and health education principles to promote health and well-being to clients
  • Articulate and practise within scope of own practice

Course structure

Online learning

Commences three weeks prior to the workshop.

Online learning

Up to  5 hours of pre-course online learning to be completed before the workshop.

Face-to-face workshop

Attendance at a one (1) day 8 hour workshop

Clinical training Up to 14 hours of supervised clinical training at a Family Planning NSW clinic to be completed within 12 weeks of workshop attendance

 

Assessment

A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the online assessments and demonstrating clinical competence in cervical screening during supervised clinical training.

The Well Women's Screening Course is in very high demand.  This course is fully subscribed, unfortunately we are unable to take waitlistings. If positions become available, they will be opened online. Please check back to our website. Registration for courses commencing from July 2019 will be open in April 2019.

This course is funded by the Cancer Institute NSW, there are no course fees for Health Care Professionals working in NSW

In accordance with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Nursing and Midwifery Board (NMB) guidelines, Family Planning NSW endorses this program for 28 CPD hours.
