This course is designed for nurses and midwives who wish to function in an extended clinical role as a practitioner in the specialty of reproductive and sexual health. It is suitable for those who are working, or wish to work in General Practice, Family Planning, Sexual Health, HIV/ AIDS, Women's Health, Drug and Alcohol, Gynaecology, Midwifery, Youth and Corrective Services.
This course is the theory only component of the Reproductive and Sexual Health - Clinical Accreditation Program.

- History taking
- Contraception
- Disability
- Cervical screening
- Breast health
- Sexually transmissible infections (STIs)
- Pregnancy options
- Men’s health
Clinical placements are currently suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions

Registered nurses and midwives.
Course structure
The course is offered over a four month period. It comprises a blend of self-paced online learning, discussion forums, live interactive webinars, reflective learning and assessment tasks.
Pre-webinar activities
Participants will have access to the online learning activities before each interactive webinar. Completion of online learning includes pre-reading, activities, case studies and videos. This learning will take approximately 3 hours to complete.
Interactive webinars
There are 6 live, interactive webinars offered in the first 6 weeks of the program (see study plan).
Post-webinar activities
Over 20 weeks participants will complete a series of online learning activities and assessment tasks.

Eligibility / Prerequisite
Registered Nurses and Midwives will need to:

Hold current unconditional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia

Enrolled Nurses will need to:

Hold current unconditional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia

Be employed in the general practice, sexual, reproductive or women's health environment, where another practitioner, either a registered nurse or doctor has skills and knowledge in reproductive and sexual health and can provide clinical support where required.
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, participants are expected to participate in all activities, and successfully complete the following:
- Attend 4 interactive webinar sessions via Zoom
- Read and view 10 topic readings and lectures
- Complete 8 online workbook topics which contain 13 assessment tasks
- Participate in 4 online forum discussions
- Write one essay
- Complete a 2 hour written examination.
Please note this course takes a minimum 88 hours to complete, which equates to approximately 5.5 hours of work per week. The hours per week will vary depending on when assessment tasks are due. Some participants may find they need to spend longer to complete the course.

Recognition / Accreditation
Participants who successfully complete all assessment requirements will be issued with a Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health - Clinical Accreditation Program.

This course is equivalent to 88 hours to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requirements for CPD.
