
Reproductive and Sexual Health - Clinical Accreditation Program: Theory only
Course description
This course is designed for nurses and midwives who wish to function in an extended clinical role as a practitioner in the specialty of reproductive and sexual health. It is suitable for those who are working, or wish to work in general practice, family planning, sexual health, HIV/ AIDS, women's health, drug and alcohol, gynaecology, midwifery, youth and corrective services.
This course is the theory only component of the Reproductive and Sexual Health - Clinical Accreditation Program.

- History taking
- Contraception
- Disability
- Cervical screening
- Breast health
- Sexually transmissible infections (STIs)
- Pregnancy options
- Men’s health
Clinical placements are currently suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions and will not be offered as part of this course.
Who should attend?
Registered nurses and midwives.
Course structure
The course is offered over sixteen weeks between 10th July and 6th November. It comprises a blend of online learning, live interactive webinars, reflective learning and assessment tasks.
Online Learning
Participants will complete their online learning using the Moodle platform on a weekly basis. All digital workbooks and textbooks will be provided.
Participants are expected to complete the online learning following the recommended weekly timeframe.
It is compulsory that participants complete 100% the required online learning activities on Moodle to obtain their certificate
Pre-webinar activities
For case study webinars, participants must complete the case study activity provided in the previous week’s course.

There are 4 live, interactive webinars offered in the course.

Eligibility / Prerequisite
Registered Nurses and Midwives will need to:

Hold current unconditional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Have 12 months post-registration experience
Enrolled Nurses will need to:
- Be employed in the general practice, sexual, reproductive or women's health environment, where another practitioner (either Registered Nurse or doctor) has skills and knowledge in reproductive and sexual health and can provide clinical support where required
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, participants are expected to participate in all activities, including:
- Attend 4 interactive webinar sessions via Zoom
- Submit two online tasks in Week 4 and Week 11
- Write and submit one essay in Week 12
- Complete a 2-hour written examination in Week 16
Please note this course takes a minimum 88 hours to complete, which equates to approximately 5.5 hours of work per week. The hours per week will vary depending on when assessment tasks are due. Some participants may find they need to spend longer to complete the course.

Digital subscription (12 months)
Contraception: An Australian clinical practice handbook, 4th ed Family Planning NSW
Recognition / Accreditation
Participants who successfully complete all assessment requirements will be issued with a Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health – Clinical Accreditation Program: Theory only.
This course is equivalent to 88 hours to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requirements for CPD.
